How It Works

Bringing a wind phone to your neighborhood is a beautiful way to offer comfort, healing, and a safe space for grief. While every project is uniquely shaped by its surroundings, the journey from a simple idea to a finished sanctuary generally follows the same collaborative path.

Below is a step-by-step look at how we work together with people just like you to bring these meaningful spaces to life.

Step 1: Finding the Right Location

The perfect spot for a wind phone is one that offers a balance of peace, privacy, and accessibility. We look for quiet public or semi-public spaces where people can feel safe sharing their thoughts.

Popular Locations: Public parks, walking trails, lakeside paths, peaceful corners of cemeteries, or community gardens.

Step 2: Partnering with the Community

Once a potential location is spotted, we need to connect with the people who care for it. We work to pitch the idea and secure permission from the property owners or managers.

Potential Partners: City municipalities, local churches, nonprofits, homeowners associations (HOAs), or private landowners.

Step 3: Funding the Vision

Most of our wind phone projects are fueled by the generosity of the community. It’s always deeply moving to see how people rally together to fund these spaces of healing.

How We Do It: We help launch crowdfunding campaigns (like GoFundMe), reach out to local business sponsors, and apply for community grants.

Step 4: Installation & Setup

With funding secured and approvals in hand, it’s time to build. We coordinate the logistics to ensure the phone is installed securely and beautifully.

The Build: Depending on the location, this might involve city maintenance crews, a hired local contractor, or a passionate team of community volunteers.

The Dedication & Sharing the Story

The final step is often the most meaningful. Families and community members can host a dedication ceremony—a special, intimate, or public event to bring people together, honor the memories of those we've lost, and officially open the space.

To help honor this milestone and spread the word to others who might need this space of healing, The Little Wind Phone Project will provide full support with local media outreach and press coverage for your dedication.
