Practical & Tangible Help

When grief makes everyday tasks feel heavy, small organizational tools can help ease the burden.

1. Helping a Friend Who is Grieving (What to Do When You Don't Know What to Say)

  • Bring meals without asking: Drop off comfort food, send a meal delivery gift card (UberEats, DoorDash), or stock their pantry with self-stable snacks.

  • Offer specific tasks: Instead of "Let me know if you need anything," try asking: "Can I walk your dog on Tuesday?" or "Can I come over and drop off paper towels and laundry detergent?"

  • Remember key dates: Mark anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays on your calendar so you can send a simple text: "I'm thinking of you and remembering [Name] today."

2. Immediate End-of-Life & Administrative Checklists

  • AARP End-of-Life Checklist: A practical guide covering immediate steps, legal notifications, and estate steps after a death.

  • Order Extra Death Certificates: Most official entities (banks, life insurance, property titles) require certified copies. Ordering 10–12 copies up front saves time later.
