Our Stewards

Every Wind Phone stands as a quiet sanctuary—a place to speak the words left unsaid and hold space for love, memory, and loss. While site landowners and host partners manage the primary maintenance of the structure and grounds, true community care thrives when hands work together.

Our Volunteer Steward Program connects local neighbors with landowners to offer extra care, heart, and intention. Designed to complement host maintenance, our stewards help keep these sacred corners peaceful, clean, and open to all—ensuring the line stays open for those who need it most.

How the Stewardship Model Works

We keep our maintenance model simple, flexible, and sustainable to ensure our volunteers feel supported every step of the way.

Rotating Shifts: Volunteers sign up for one-month blocks using our online calendar. This ensures consistent care without overloading anyone.

10-Minute Weekly Checks: During your month, you'll swing by the site once or twice a week to clean, restock supplies, and check on the space.

Lightweight Digital Check-In: Log your visit in seconds using a hidden QR code inside the phone station—no paperwork needed.

What a Volunteer Steward Does

Taking care of a Wind Phone takes just a few minutes, but makes a lasting impact on every visitor who steps inside:

  • Keep the Space Inviting: Wipe down the telephone handset, sweep away leaves, and clear trash or debris.

  • Respectful upkeep: Help manage flowers and mementos left by visitors to keep the area clear and peaceful.

  • Report Repairs: Let our site coordinator know if the phone frame or shelter needs physical repairs.
